Lawmakers in Olympia are finishing up the second week of their 2014 legislative session, and a clear political divide is already evident. During Governor Jay Inslee’s State of the State address last Tuesday, Democrats applauded for proposals to inject more money into the K-12 school system and to raise the minimum wage, while Republicans sat silent. And issues like college aid for undocumented students, paid sick leave, government accountability, and insurance coverage for abortions are causing partisan divides in a charged election year where control of the state Senate is up for grabs.

We’ll check in with OPB reporter Austin Jenkins on what he’s seeing in the early days of the session.
