In 2011, Christchurch, New Zealand suffered a devastating earthquake. One hundred and eighty five people were killed, infrastructure damage was extensive and the rebuilding process has been slow.

Carmen Merlo, the director of the Portland Bureau of Emergency Management, was in Christchurch last week to observe the city’s recovery process. She’ll join us live from New Caledonia, a small territory in the Pacific Ocean, to talk about what she found and the lessons she’s bringing home that could help Portland better prepare for a natural disaster.
