Why Is David Wu Still On Capitol Hill?

OPB | July 18, 2014 12:40 p.m.

After seven terms representing Oregon’s first congressional district, David Wu resigned in 2011 following allegations that he had an unwanted sexual encounter with the teenage daughter of a campaign donor. Three years later, he’s still making regular appearances on Capitol Hill, according to a recent BuzzFeed profile.

Wu told BuzzFeed he comes to the Capitol to visit friends and that he’s still in D.C. mainly because the terms of his divorce stipulate he must continue to live there to be near his two teenage children until they graduate from high school. His main focus right now is an effort to bring American students to China to get a glimpse of the Chinese space program. But that doesn’t require him to take many meetings on the Hill.

BuzzFeed quotes a current Congressman as saying, “I don’t think he has a sense that he left in disgrace. That chip seems to be missing.”
