2005 OPB Reading Rainbow Contest Winners

Congratulations to the winners of OPB's Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest!

This year, almost 400 children in kindergarten through third grade entered the contest. Their creativity lead them to write about monkeys and turtles and polar bears ... burglars and monsters and superheroes ... moms and kids and dancing flowers ... and everything in between. We celebrated their achievements on May 12, 2005 at OPB with a wonderful party for the finalists and their families, featuring the presentation of honors by award-winning children's author Deborah Hopkinson.

We hope you enjoy reading the winning stories and become inspired to enter our contest next year.

Special thanks to our contest sponsors: Annie Blooms Books, Lazerquick, Pacific Power, Northwest Children's Theater, Simon and Schuster and Tully's Coffee. Thanks also to our contest volunteers: Lee Catalano, Pamela Hetrick, Tony Hinxman, Kendra Lay, Susanne Lohkamp, Jackie Rose, Becca Samek, Shirley Smith and Elaine Spence.
