Around 600 guardsmen have been called up to fight wildfires this season — a record fitting for what is becoming one of Oregon's worst fire seasons.
Teams of guardsmen are fighting the Horse Prairie and Chetco Bar fires in the southwestern corner of the state, and another 130 are in training and awaiting assignment this weekend.
Oregon fire officials are turning to National Guard troops to help contain wildfires across the Northwest.
