Eugene resident Olga Volchkova grew up in Russia, and attended the first school of traditional icon painting when it opened after the Berlin Wall came down. She painted traditional Russian icons for years.
After she moved to America she began combining her passion for botanicals and plants with her icon paintings to create a new body of work. She uses traditional Russian techniques and stylized brush strokes to pay homage to potatoes, coffee, beer and nightshade.
We visit her home studio and watch her create two distinctive icon paintings.
