Oregon Art Beat

This 11-member band blends the rhythms of Afrobeat legends Fela Kuti and King Sunny Ade with the Godfather of Soul, James Brown. Members of the group come from places as different Nigeria, Cuba and Lake Oswego, and they tell us they actually communicate better through the rhythms than they do through language. Their fans may march to different drummers, but at Portland’s The Goodfoot, all races and ages could be seen dancing to Jujuba’s beat.
