Oregon Art Beat

Michael Gibbons

Landscape painter Michael Gibbons paints from life, out of doors, as well as working in the studio. He discusses the difference, along with other issues of visual art. He feels free to edit landscapes, adding or moving trees, for instance. It takes 20 years, he says, for an easel painter to reach his or her first level of maturity.
