Successful landscape painter Ann Ruttan usually focuses on Oregon scenery, but a lecture about Lewis and Clark inspired her to go farther afield. She traveled the Lewis and Clark Trail, seeking out locations mentioned in their journals, and created field paintings and photographs to bring back and turn into large finished canvasses. Some are painted from life, and others required her imagination to be portrayed as the first explorers saw them.
