Mosquitos pose potential health risks to humans. The Oregon Health Department is particularly concerned about the transmission of West Nile Virus and Western Decline Encephalitis. By sampling the mosquito population for these viruses, scientists may be able to give advanced warnings of a potential outbreak. Look at the latest efforts to try and control the mosquito population by treating pools of still water where mosquito larva live and grow.
