Mt. St Helen's Conflict

OPB | Feb. 1, 2003 7:30 p.m.

The mountain’s south side is one of the most heavily used recreation sites in the Pacific Northwest. But tempers are flaring between snowmobilers, hikers and skiers. The snowmobilers come for the speed and adventure, whereas the hikers and skiers come for the slow pace and solitude. Can these two contrary sports share the same mountain? See how managers of the St Helen’s National Monument are trying to keep the peace.
