OPB | Oct. 25, 2007 1:30 p.m.

Caring for animals has come a long way in the last 50 years. One Portland man played a large role in changing how zoos handle animals. You’ve probably never heard of Doctor Matt Maberry, but you know his most famous delivery: Packy, the elephant. Dr. Mayberry recalls his years at the Oregon Zoo as well as his work pioneering zoological animal care techniques.
