A Study Abroad Program?
Austin Jenkins of the Northwest News Network had some very interesting things to say on today's show with Washington Governor Chris Gregoire. In particular, he noted that these two neighbors -- which share many of the same problems -- often don't look across their state lines for ideas about workable solutions:
"The fact that the governors get along is one thing, but I'm a little surprised that we don't learn more from each other. For instance, what's worked in health care reform in Oregon and what hasn't worked? What lessons can we glean from each other when it comes to health care, transportation, education -- these vexing problems? I'm always amazed the extent to which these states sort of seem like silos."
These aren't rhetorical questions. What can Oregon teach Washington? And what lessons does Washington, in turn, have for Oregon?
