About those "A" and "F" grades
Here's a little clarification about the education report we brought up with John Kitzhaber yesterday.
This year Education Reform Now and the Education Equality Project graded (pdf) gubernatorial candidates in 37 states based on their positions on education reform. Chris Dudley got an A, but Kitzhaber declined to answer the questionnaire (as did more than half the candidates). The groups then looked at Kitzhaber's campaign website but didn't find information they considered specific enough, so they rated him a zero. That translated to an F.
Stand for Children endorsed Kitzhaber but also said that Dudley was "a true moderate with a sincere and passionate commitment to education." In that endorsement, the group said that Kitzhaber had more specific and aggressive plans to stabilize school funding. They felt Dudley's inexperience with government and leadership was too great a risk.
