Didn't Say Exactly That

Both Democratic candidates for governor told TOL they would not try to change Measures 66 or 67 if they became governor.  When I asked John Kitzhaber about the measures, I mentioned that he had said he would like to change the parts the business community didn't like. "I didn't say that," he replied, before answering the question. Here's the backstory: I was referring to this report about a candidates' forum last fall (back when Steve Shields was still running) by Jeff Mapes in the Oregonian. Here's the paragraph:

All three candidates said they support the $733 million tax package that will go before voters in January. If it passes, Kitzhaber said, he'd consider changing provisions disliked by the business community in the 2011 session.

"Would like to" isn't exactly the same thing as "would consider," although they could be close! And I wasn't at that fall forum. So I'll take a mea culpa.
