Dueling Oil Futures
There's a telling disagreement about the future of internal combustion in today's Next 150 Years thread.
Cascadia fired the first shot with a description of the familiar (but still cataclysmic) changes that will come in a post-peak oil world:
Oil will no longer power the economy. There will be little global trade. Airplanes will be a thing of the past. Warfare will change — no more warplanes and huge navies.... We'll transport people and freight by rail and boat.
But then there was the “PDX 405 Grand Prix” from Manu:
(I also enjoyed Mark's response to this: "I thought that that was already omni-present and taking place for the past several years. It is just not officially announced as to when to start your engines.")
On the larger question of no oil vs. unapologetic celebration of oil, where do you fall on the prediction spectrum?

Within the next 25 years Portland will start hosting a Formula One Grand Prix. Its route will mainly focus on the I-405 loop around downtown over Marquam & Fremont bridges. It will also have some loops through the west hills. It’ll be one of the most scenic Grand Prix events paralleling Monte Carlo and bringing Portland an annuity of revenue for as long as people love racing and speed.
