Were you in the audience?

If you were in the studio audience for the tax measure show taping Thursday night, then I have two questions for you. One, did you learn anything new? Two, did you talk with anyone who you probably wouldn't have talked to otherwise?

Any other feedback is welcome as well.

A big thanks to everyone who came! You brought great questions and passion, and a huge range of experience.

The program will air on OPB TV at 9 PM Friday and 5 PM Sunday. Also, join us for our election night special as returns come in. That starts at 8 PM Tuesday, January 26, on OPB radio.

UPDATE, 1/25/10 at 11:17am:

You can watch the full hour right here.

Thank you for providing a public, open forum for discussion on this important local issue. I have enjoyed the debate and keeping both sides accountable to their claims and assertions.

I am a bit disillusioned at the dishonesty of both sides especially in their ads. Unfortunately the ad's methodology is a product of the lack of interest and due diligence on the part of the general voting public in adequately researching & contemplating this issue. Rather, memorable sound bites, slogans and "shocking statistics" are barraged onto our media and repeated by campaign spokespeople.

In the past, I have felt OPB was biased in political coverage at times but Think Out Loud has been fair to both sides on this issue. Thank you OPB for this public service and I will happily donate this year for more content like this.

I was not at the taping, but watched the show Friday night.

The program was OK, but not great.  Please do NOT have the talking heads of the for/against sides on these programs - it's a waste of time.  We've already heard their arguments for months AND we've seen the propaganda from each side.

Try to get neutral parties to discuss the topics to present an unbiased view so we can judge the facts, not the hype.  Try to expose the major distortions.  It's hard to find accurate information on these topics - please help find experts that can present correct information.

Thanks, I'm happy OPB is doing projects like this and putting on the TOL program.  Keep it up!

I watched the TOL show twice and didn't learn anything new, or anything that changed my mind, but thank you for hosting a public debate.

I talked with a friend who is involved with neighborhood politics and she's  pro 66 and 67.

I talked to busy friends raising their child and dealing with a more than full time job. 66 and 67 antagonized them. They have no interest in funding a failing education system and state bureacracy. They don't want ANYONE to pay more taxes to a failing state. (I'm saying this more harshly than they meant it. They want Oregon to be better than it is.)

Most people I roll amongst fall into the anti 66, 67 camp. They don't research issues carefully. They tend to vote down tax increases because they feel overly taxed.

During the show I was distracted by the microphones being directly in front of your mouths. I was surprised you didn't use lapel microphones, or less obtrusive microphones.

Like mcdaniel I'm dissillusioned by the dishonesty of the interest groups ads and what was said during the show. I still have no idea whether 66 and 67 will work, and how much they will actually cost whether implemented or not. I don't trust what I'm being sold and told.

I agree with each of John Providenza's points, especially finding those with neutral positions who have discovered the real costs and impacts of the issue being discussed.

I heard the City Club debate between Pat McCormick and Steve Novick and they used essentially the same talking points on TOL. Novick used debater's techniques to bash and twist McCormick's arguments more effectively. I got caught up with Novick's technique rather than what was being said.
