I drew the lucky straw and went to Los Angeles yesterday to accept TOL's Gracie award for our show on paid family leave.

Despite being very close to Hollywood, no winners got to give any speeches. We did enjoy salad with grapefruit and goat's cheese, a chicken-y entree, iced tea and a fluffy dessert! Discussed at my table: biking, Jewish mothers, mental illness; also the challenge of telling radio stories about traumatic brain injury in less than a minute (I sat next to a reporter from a DC commercial station whose series on that won an award), Afghanistan, high heels, and where in New York you can take your dog. One of the many funny one-liners mentioned by the emcee: closet master bakers. Best display of love and pride: when parents of a winner stood up and whirled their white napkins as they cheered their daughter's success.
After the formal stuff, I took Gracie to see my old apartment...

I commend you and the rest of the Think Out Loud team for the enlightenment you provide. I can imagine how fast and intense you folks work to put together a widely ranging daily show and I'm happy you do it well. Continued success and thank you.
