I get embarrassed pretty easily, but this one really deserves a red face. On our show about future farmers we waxed so eloquent so many times about enjoying the shade of a majestic oak tree. Well, it's a silver maple. And I pride myself for having taught my four year old the difference! Not to make excuses, but this sign led me astray:

THIS sign was the one to spot!

Of course, I could have just looked at the leaves. What can I say? The lowest ones were above eye level. Or I had a lot on my mind. Or it was hot.

Or it was time for reminder to not get embarrassed so easily.

PS: This did spark some debate among the TOL crew! Engineer Jonathan Newsome suggested forgiveness; silver maple leaves are kind of spindly, he said, sort of like red oak (and he grew up on a farm!) Rural econ coordinator Cassie Wieden says no way, possibly they look like Japanese maple leaves, but certainly not oak!
