Designing for Homelessness

A group of PSU students have been researching and thinking about how to address the problem of youth homelessness in Portland. They developed their projects in a class with renowned architect Teddy Cruz, who brought his experience looking at how makeshift housing in the Tijuana-San Diego boarder region can be applied in other parts of the U.S.

Now their projects are meeting the public at Mercy Corps’ Rethinking Shelter exhibit. Over the coming weekend, they’ll take part in a design workshop with members of the Portland design community to develop their ideas.

How would you like to see Portland develop housing for youth who are homeless? How can Portland adopt lessons from cities around the country and around the globe?
