Oregonian columnist Elizabeth Hovde has been a friend of Think Out Loud for a while now. One of the first shows she appeared on dealt with the issue of paid family leave. She brought her young, female, conservative wit and wisdom to that fiery discussion. So needless to say we were so sad last year when we heard that she had suffered a traumatic brain injury from a skiing accident at Mt. Hood. As a young mother of two children, this huge trauma made an equally huge impact on her life. She joined us in June, several months after the accident, to let us know how she was recovering. In this hour, we’ll begin by replaying that conversation. That was Elizabeth then.
But the second half of the show is Elizabeth now. We invited her back to our studio last week to update us on her progress. As you’ll hear, the effects of her brain injury are slowly dissipating. But only days after she was here in June, she received some devastating news. Her husband had decided to leave her. He said her accident had taught her that life is short. This is a conversation not to miss.
