What if you could live to 100 or even longer? One doctor claims he can predict your lifespan with a survey. Questions range from your weight and lifestyle habits to whether you floss your teeth or have relatives who have lived to a ripe-old age. If your life expectancy is shorter than you would like you get some hints on what to change in order to increase it.
But what does the science say?
A recent study in the journal Nature suggests calorie deprivation does not extend life. Contrary to previous studies, this long-term study done with monkeys showed that while the monkeys who ate less were healthier and looked younger, they did not live significantly longer.
How to extend human life is being studied at research institutions here in Oregon and elsewhere across the country. Some focus on genetics, others on diet, and one researcher in Chicago has launched what he calls a Manhattan-style Project to slow the aging process.
