Gun Advocates Rally In Salem

Supporters of Oregon’s concealed handgun license law are gathering in Salem on Friday to “remind our representatives who they’re representing.” Tom Tharp, one of the organizers of the event says the rally will also aim to educate owners and the public about safe gun practices.

The rally follows on the heels of a nation-wide “Guns Across America” rally that brought 2000 concealed carry supporters to Salem on Jan. 19. Organizers don’t expect as large a turn-out this time. One difference from the January rally, which was held on a weekend day, is that the capitol will be open Friday. Armed visitors are allowed inside the capitol according to concealed carry laws, and though rally organizers are not encouraging anyone to enter the building, capitol staff are preparing for that possibility.

Will you be at the Salem rally? What do you think the public needs to know about Oregon’s gun laws? Have you contacted your Salem representatives about guns? What did you tell them?
