Police arrested 16-year-old Parrish Bennette Jr., whom family described as Vaughn’s friend and past boyfriend. A Multnomah County Grand Jury indicted Bennette on two charges — murder with a firearm and first-degree manslaughter with a firearm. Vaughn’s body has still not been found, giving some family members hope that she is still alive.
Vaughn’s grandmother, Reynelda Hayes, has been particularly critical of police and the Multnomah County District Attorney’s office, saying that most of the information she has received comes from media reports. The family is conducting its own investigation.
