Reaction to the Supreme Court Rulings on DOMA and Prop 8

Today, the Supreme Court struck down the Defense of Marriage Act, ruling it unconstitutional. The decision on DOMA now gives same-sex couples in 12 states and the District of Columbia the same federal benefits afforded to other married couples. The Court also dismissed Prop 8 on standing, which paves the way for same-sex marriage to resume in California. The Court did not take up the broader question of whether states have the right to ban gay marriage.

We’ll be reacting to the Supreme Court’s rulings on DOMA and Prop 8. We’ll have a variety of voices from the Northwest - legal experts explaining the implications of the rulings, activists on both sides and people who will be affected.

What’s your reaction to these rulings? How do these decisions affect you or people you know?
