A new audit of Portland’s emergency services suggests that the 911 emergency operators do not have access to the ongoing training they need. Drummond Kahn, the director of Audit Services for the City of Portland, says they found many hard-working operators and managers who are savings lives every day. But Kahn says there’s no system in place to provide training or implement new procedures. The director of the Bureau of Emergency Communication responded to the audit (pdf), saying the department is too busy answering calls to provide the kind of training called for.
Have you used 911 emergency services? What was your experience? What questions do you have about the audit?
