Auto insurance is required of every driver, but is there a need for bike insurance?
Better World Club, a Portland-based company billing itself as an environmentally friendly auto club is planning to launch a bike insurance program later this month that offers insurance to cyclists.
Some see it as unnecessary. They say the benefits that bike insurance provides are covered by auto, medical, homeowner's and renter's insurance. But some cyclists don't carry any of those insurance plans and fear they would be vulnerable if they were injured by an uninsured motorist, another cyclist or if their bike were stolen.
Some companies such as AAA offer roadside assistance for cyclists but Spoke Insurance based in California, are pioneers in the field of bike insurance. They opened in February.
Would you consider getting bike insurance? Are you covered through over insurance plans? How would bike insurance have helped you?
