When French gypsy jazz guitarist Stephane Wrembel was on our show recently, he answered a question from our site about his guitar. He was happy to tell us that his instrument was made by local luthier Bob Holo. Wrembel said,
You guys are really lucky to have Bob Holo in Portland ... The whole guitar resonates, from the head, the neck, everything is in perfect harmony. He has a control of the tone and the sound that I haven't seen before, a precision that is really extraordinary.
He originally left a job at Intel to build a business making loudspeakers and ended up moving on to guitars, which he says are like "mechanical loudspeakers." He says he's very happy making his living building vintage-style guitars in his garage workshop, often putting in more than twelve hours a day.
