Checking In With Coordinated Care Organizations
The majority of patients on the Oregon Health Plan (about 90 percent) are now getting their health needs met through a Coordinated Care Organization (CCO). On Tuesday, Dec. 11 state officials will be taking comments from the public about their experiences with CCOs thus far.
As we've discussed in the past, CCOs create networks of health care providers to increase communication and make the entire system more efficient. The first CCOs got up and running in August. Since then, there have been a few bumps in the road, including complaints from naturopaths that they are being excluded. Integrating dental care into CCOs has also proved challenging. Despite the difficulties, many patients and health care providers have already enjoyed the benefits of better communication and coordination.
