Diving Into The History Of The Rogue River
The Rogue River flows from near Crater Lake all the way to the Pacific Ocean. It's a beautiful, pristine river, and one of the first to be protected by federal Wild & Scenic Rivers Act. People have leaned heavily on the river for as long as the historical record can tell — from Native Americans to gold miners, to anglers and white water rafters, the river has been an essential natural resource. Oregon Field Guide's entire program Thursday focuses on the history of this river. One important chapter concerns Zane Grey, an early 20th century author who publicized the Rogue as a great place for fishing.
