Our national drug is alcohol. We tend to regard the use of any other drug with special horror. ~ William S. Burroughs

That's just one of the quotes in Janet McIntyre's new documentary film about the causes and consequences of binge drinking among teenage girls. Faded: Girls + Binge Drinking follows four teens from various socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds and documents their experiences with alcohol, peer pressure, and sexuality. The Burroughs' quote, and other statistics interwoven throughout the film, are meant to help give the cultural context for the individual experiences of these four very different girls. The Northwest Film Center showed the film last fall as part of a local filmmaker series, but it's hosting the official premiere of Faded this Thursday evening at the Portland Art Museum.

Did you or someone close to you engage in binge drinking as a teenager? What was the result? How closely are alcohol and sexuality related in your experience or observations?
