Like many other states, Oregon is struggling to come back from the recession. Oregon has one of the highest rates of unemployment in the nation. Nonetheless, many states have it worse, and many Oregonians who are out of a job are still hard at work — looking for work, retraining, and in some cases starting their own businesses. Our past shows took up Jobs and Identity, Entrepreneurship and Retraining. You can hear all the stories and Think Out Loud shows we aired last month here. On today's show you'll hear some of the highlights and favorite moments from the the series.

This show is being pre-recorded so we can't take your calls or read your comments live on the air, but we'd love to read about your experience, especially if you missed some or all of our Getting Back to Work series when it aired last month. Have you changed jobs or been laid off? How did that affect your sense of who you are? Did you start your own business in this recession? Did you have to retrain for a job? What was that like? Good show this morning, even if it was a "redux" version. I'm surviving (only just) these last two years by being self-employed using old hobby skills and a short list of regular and a few new customers who like my work - highly detailed and painted scale model trains for the collector.

I have searched TOL here to try and find the link to one of your Back to Work interviewees - I think the name of his/their small business was Beeker Boots? I just couldn't find it and it doesn't Google. Is there a URL for that business?

Keep it up guys!

Apparently today’s job market is more competitive and more difficult than ever to navigate this is still due to the effect of the global economic collapse. Job seekers are left with no choice to the few published jobs that exist, often times competing with thousands of other applicants for the same position. That’s how challenging job hunting now. You have to be globally competitive, as competition is getting stiffer. Those who had been laid off don’t feel bitter, try to make yourself productive, starting a small business can also be a best alternative while waiting for the economy to bounce back.

Nowadays, many where still searching for a job, we cannot deny the fact that we all need money to provide our daily necessities. Starting a small business might be risky since the economy isn’t recovering that fast but who knows Jhonny has a point here. It’s better to try our luck in doing small business than sitting on our chairs, watching TV and drinking beers. Well, money wont come our way if we wont be eager to find it. Good luck!!!

In an uncertain age, we all must have a Plan B.

IF this recession proves more loger lasting and durable, then  also a Plan C, D, E, F and G.  Be open minded and creative.

Learn to take calculated risks.  Every opportunity involves some risk  for the potential benefits.

There are two ways to wealth, INHERITENCE and HARD WORK.  The problem with hard work is that it is hard work.    And Geocaching,  video gaming and skateboarding tricks won't get us one step closer.
