The Wilamette Valley may be the next site of American high-speed rail — that is, if state officials can figure out where to put it.

The Oregon Passenger Rail Leadership Council is still in the planning stages for the proposed high-speed passenger train to run between Eugene and Portland. But before the group decides on the service areas, frequency, and the actual speed of these trains, they must decide among the four proposed routes. The council will also rely on results from an enivronmental impact study, which has yet to be completed.

The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) is hosting a series of open house discussions to gather input and brief the public on the project thus far.

Would you ride a high-speed train from Eugene to Portland or vice versa? How would this new form of transportation affect you? Have you ridden on a high-speed train in Europe or Asia? Do you have concerns about high-speed rail?
