Secretary of State Kate Brown released an audit (pdf) earlier this year evaluating the performance of the state's child welfare system.  It looked at about a year worth of data and concluded that the high workload for caseworkers is impacting the quality of services provided by the state.

Audit recommendations include:

  • An evaluation of priorities and duties expected from caseworkers
  • Potential annual employee performance evaluations to encourage professional development and an improved work environment
  • redirecting federal funding

Are you a caseworker in Oregon's foster care system? Have you been a foster parent or had children removed from your care? What improvements to the system do you think are necessary? What's working well now?
