More than 10 years ago, a guy named Joe Hutto decided to perform a most unusual experiment. He watched some baby turkeys hatch and made sure that his was the first face they saw, so that they would essentially identify him as their mother. What followed was a wild 18 months of living among these wild birds. Hutto wrote a book about his experience, and the venerable PBS show, Nature, produced a documentary based on that book. Hutto narrates the program, but since he truly was alone with the turkeys, the film depends on reenactments to tell the story visually. The program airs on OPB TV at 8 p.m. Wednesday night.
