Reactions to NY's Same-Sex Marriage Law
New York became the largest state to legalize same-sex marriage June 24. The bill was approved by a bipartisan Senate chamber in a 33 to 29 vote. The following day, an estimated 6,000 revelers came out to party in the streets for Manhattan's Gay Pride parade.
Of course, the decision was far from unanimous among New Yorkers. The state's Roman Catholic archbishop expressed disapproval of the law on a radio show.
Oregonian activists also responded. While Basic Rights Oregon has been upfront about its plan to overturn Oregon's same-sex marriage ban in 2012, Oregon Family Council has expressed confidence in upholding it.
Do you have strong feelings for or against same-sex marriage in Oregon? Does New York's new marriage law have local implications?
