The Eugene City Council got national attention this week for a vote on whether or not to start their meetings with the Pledge of Allegiance — something they haven't done before. When Councilman Mike Clark proposed the idea some speculated that he had political motivations for bringing up the subject. But Clark told Fox News his intention was simply to unite his colleagues. Ultimately, there was not much unity among the city councilors and they approved a compromise in which the Pledge of Allegiance will be recited at four meetings each year — those closest to Memorial Day, Veteran's Day, Flag Day and the Fourth of July.

Do you recite the Pledge of Allegiance on a regular basis? Why? What does it mean to you?
