Rebroadcast: Faith in the Northwest
AIR DATE: Thursday, December 25th 2008
What shapes faith in the Pacific Northwest?
Deep winter is a spiritual season, even here, which has a reputation as being the least religious part of the country. This December 25th we bring you a rebroadcast of Faith in the Northwest, a show that explored the cultural and natural forces that shape beliefs in our region.

For me, I wonder at the constant reference to religion, with a failure to consider spirituality. Attending church or following specific religious belief patterns means very little if people do not live spiritually every day.

I was lucky to be raised as an atheist. That left an empty space in my head so that when I encountered a true religious/spiritual/mystical experience, I didn't have to overcome any previous training or attachments or guilt.
That experience came along (as it did for many of us Boomers) in the form of psychedelic drugs and some of the music of the time, most especially the Grateful Dead. There's a reason why some Deadheads used to call concerts "church." -
