Things are busy at the Oregon Capitol these days. Lawmakers are scrambling to schedule hearings on their bills before the April 8 deadline for committee hearings, after which many bills will be declared "dead." We'll catch up with OPB reporter Chris Lehman about a few interesting issues coming up this week:
- An effort to legalize marijuana in Oregon
- Proposed changes to last year's ban on Native American mascots in Oregon schools
- A bill that would roll back some mandatory sentencing laws and increase crime prevention efforts
- Paid sick leave at the state level
We'll have a discussion about different ideas for PERS reform tomorrow on the show and we'll dig into some other issues next week when we'll be broadcasting live from Salem.
