Staffing at the Oregon State Hospital
Members of the Oregon State Hospital nurses' local union met with legislators earlier this month to urge lawmakers to increase staffing at the hospital campuses in Portland and Salem. These state-run mental health facilities are operating below planned staffing levels following a budget cut and the state-wide hiring freeze that was announced late last year. (There's still a freeze for supervisors and managers.) To make up the difference, hospital administrators have been hiring temporary nurses through an agency.
Do you work at the Oregon State Hospital? Have you — or someone you know — been a patient there? How have staffing levels affected you?
