Update Apr. 11, 7:15pm The Parkrose Faculty Association and the Gresham-Barlow Education Association each authorized a strike.
Two East Multnomah County teachers' unions will vote Wednesday evening on whether or not to go on strike. Both the Parkrose Faculty Association and Gresham-Barlow Education Assocation have found themselves at an impasse with their respective districts. If either union approves a strike, they will have to give their district at least 10 days notice.
Contract negotiations have been ongoing for over a year in both districts. The unions and administrators are at odds over compensation and scheduling. One of the unions' chief concerns is how much planning time will be built into teachers' work days.
The last time a local teachers' union went on strike was in the Oregon Trail district in 2005.
Do you have kids in school in either the Parkrose or Gresham-Barlow districts? Do you work for one of these districts? How would a strike affect you?
