An Update On The Mohamed Mohamud Trial
The trial of a young man accused of trying to set off a bomb at Portland's holiday tree-lighting ceremony in 2010 began last week. Mohamed Mohamud was 19 years old when he was arrested. The bomb he tried to detonate was a fake, supplied to him by undercover FBI agents.
As prosecutors began presenting their case, we heard about the origins of the FBI's investigation into Mohamud and agents' perceptions of the young man's motives. Defense attorneys argued that Mohamud was a somewhat clueless teenager, who was manipulated by government agents.
