The tech industry is big in Portland, but according to a Willamette Week story, women are missing out on tech sector jobs. There are many possible reasons for this ranging from a lack of interest in computer science among college-aged women to a desire for more of a work-life balance than the typical startup job has to offer. The so-called "brogrammer" mentality at some companies has also been cited as a factor (think office kegerators and frequent foosball breaks).
Whatever the reasons, the numbers are stark. So, how does this gender imbalance affect the industry?
