All_Day_SCIfi's comments:

on Northwest Passages: Ursula K. Le Guin

I saw Lathe of Heaven on PBS way back when also.  I had read the book earlier and many others, Wizard of Earth Sea, Dispossessed, Left Hand of Darkness.  Sometimes I wonder if it is just age or me or if most of the stuff called science fiction these days has just gotten dumber.

But the technology has dealt us a new old hand.  The very first science fiction book I ever read appeared in Project Gutenberg in 2006.  Librivox turned it into an audio book.  If I was a kid today I could walk the six blocks to school while listening to science fiction.  I think that would be really cool.
