Anne Whitaker's comments:

on State of the Union

In the lead-in to today's show, Emily quoted the opresident as saying it was like taking the engine off a "helicopter." The President actually said taking the engine off an "airplane." Incomplete and incorrect quotes have had serious unintended consequences including loss of jobs, etc. This is a minor error, but nonetheless an error. It goes to being able to trust what is said by the TOL hosts. Therefore it is important.

on Clinton and the Generational Gender Divide

A hypothesis: The comments I see and hear from people who criticize Senator Hillary Clinton sound like they come from the play book the Republicans have been using against her since early in her days as First Lady. Too many people are looking at these criticisms and believing that they "are" Hillary Clinton. She continues to be criticized for her handling of the health care initiative. In contrast, in her autobiography she readily admitted that she made a huge mistake, that she learned a lot, and she will avoid repeating those errors. Her experience and seasoning will be a valuable asset as President.

on On Dying Well

I want to support igreenfield's comments on the importance of using the correct terminology in conjunction with Oregon's Death with Dignity Act. However, I was dismayed to hear Emily frequently use "suicide" during the program. It conveys prejudice against the act whether intentionally or not. The most important benefit of the program is that it gives the individual a sense of control that enables them to go through the dying process with dignity whether they actually take the prescription or not.

I'm a strong supporter of "Think Out Loud" and our Death with Dignity Act. Thanks for having an excellent discussion on dying.
