on More, more, more!

A few years ago OPB eliminated the Oregon focused news segment and instead broke up the stories scattering them.  Now we get the much more commercial feel of ‘tune in at 6:50 for the story on XYZ’ soundbite format.  A really dumb change that was less then an improvement but it stuck, the only saving grace is the content while fragmented remains good enough, but there is currently no competition for quality news coverage!  What if there was?
TOL adjusting the format away from the one subject for one hour to the contrary, I can see being a good thing, if the producer is smart enough to determine the proper length of time for the subject.  If the producer blows it, can they then come back to the topic the next opportunity (days not weeks) and there is going to be the logistical issue.
I can see that the online community could be useful in determining the time allotment; if the topic is posted a week or so in advance the reaction to the topic could be utilized as an indicator, though I am not sure how you would filter out the right/left bickering to find the pertinent content; I guess that is why y’all make the big money.  LOL!

One other thing, if you are going to use this online feedback/Blog/BBS you are going to have to do a better job of filtering out and preventing the SPAM, they have found you, AND you need a Website admin contact addy on every page so that we can report it.

Have a terrific day!

Jacob hang in there! I enjoy your writing, I have a response that builds on your premise but frankly with the hostility and lack of intellect on display I find to be far to juvenile and poisonous to bother with this forum any longer.  See ya on the radio.

lolo as you were advised “Seek Help”!

If the workers can choose unionize, it follows that the employer can choose to reject the union.

There is no fraud there is no waste your government and mine is fiscally chaste.

How dare you think if even in satire that any in government could even possibly have a felonious flair?

So many times these fine people meet and they manage to spend more then we lay at their feet.

In-deed dear soul surely you jest for Oregon has the very best. . .

That money can buy.

Based on listening to “Meg Sheehan” today (with all due respect to her person) is about as competent to be an authority or expert on Oregon’s Biomass potential opportunities as is a Chickadee to comment on Shakespeare!

To answer your last question: Absolutely!

I have quickly searched and if you have no objection and if it would be not to much trouble, would you be so kind as to post the source for your statistic?

Thank You.

on Complaining on FB

Should employers be able to restrict their employees from talking about their jobs on Facebook and other social media?
Having NDA's with several dozen companies/individuals, not being able to tell you about most of the interesting things I have done, or in some cases who I have worked with and where and under terms specified in several cases I can ‘never’ legally disclose anything; I am always stunned at people that think they can post “whatever” and expect to continue on without consequence.
Do you post about your job on Facebook?
While I have logged into Facebook I have no presence on or need (addiction) to use Fb; other then as a tool to mine data on occasion.
Do you tweet what your boss or colleagues did today?
Twitter… Now there is a useless activity but please keep going you sometimes make my work easier.
What restrictions, if any, should be placed by bosses, on the use of personal social media?
Having been the boss for years I do not care what you do on your time as long as you generate enough wealth to justify your costs on my time:  Smoke what you want, do what you want, say what you want, get married to a goat.  As long as you do the job you are being paid for we are good.  Thus, I would choose to place no restrictions unless I needed to secure IP/business info and then I would have one of the documents like I have signed in force.
On the flip-side I would have done my due diligence and spider’d the web with any final candidate for hire; I would know with some certainty of their propensity for public in-discretion and thus NOT hired them; and if you suddenly developed the need to blather, I would suddenly not need you in my employ.  Words have meaning AND consequences, if you do not know that, sucks to be you!

I will never have an employee if I can avoid it!

on The Reality of Guns

It will be interesting to see just how many Firearm owners will post on OPB when the troll is so blatant.  As tragic as these cherry-picked local events are, about 115-people die in car accidents in the USA every day.  Where is the outrage?  Where in the curiosity on why? The Automobile is a far more deadly inanimate object then the Firearm and yet I have yet to see:
Do you own a Car? For what purpose? Where did you get it? If you have it for necessity do you keep it at your curbside, or locked in a Garage? Have you ever pulled it out? Have you ever driven it? If you have kids, what do you tell them about your car?

Why then has OPB (et-al) not shown similar “Curiosity” into a machine that kills and injures more people the “Gun”.  Where is the introspection as to why when you are far more likely to be injured, maimed or killed by the “Car” you fear the “Gun”.

Oh, it must be a rating period!

Who is my neighbor; largely ‘Imports’ that brought their money and (sadly) their need to make here resemble the place they were running from.

on Portland's South Waterfront

Having worked in that area 30+ years ago, having studied the hystorical  use of the area, having a good idea of the levels of and what the polutants were then and likely are today; why would anyone ever want to live there and how can any governmnet allow a school there...

It seems to me that a detention facility is a far better use then residential.

on Kicking Off A New Session

I listened to Dr. K’s opening speech and I appreciated the simple straight on approach.
There will likely be the need to increase taxes, however before attempting to increase taxes I hope that he, the legislature and the public are fully engaged in a massive cut in spending; not necessarily across the board rather looking to strengthen in a calculated long range (decades) way, the three areas that the state government should hold as the primary (perhaps only) function: EDUCATION, Infrastructure, and Public Safety.  Every other function is a luxury and luxury’s are just as with every well managed household in Oregon things that are funded IF and ONLY AFTER you pay (no deficit spending) the Necessary expenses.  There are 167 state agencies listed on this page:

http://www.oregon.gov/a_to_z_listing.shtml

Just read the names and then ask yourself how many of these agencies are necessary and how many are luxuries.  It may be that some few of these agencies are necessary if so can their functions be combined with others, or should the subject of the agency directly fund the agency.   For example take the “Massage Therapists, Board Of” or the “Appraiser Certification And Licensure Board”; IF these two functions are necessary then why not make them self funding by the people that are profiting from that field of endeavor.

It is unusual that TOL has a show subject so inconsequential that I switch away from (or off) OPB!  Thanks’ for the majority of your work!-)
Today’s show is perfectly timed since in light of the important and tragic news it will be interesting to hear the rhetoric from the opposite side of the political spectrum and I wont miss anything on OPB!
