on RX: Health Care by Christmas?
Yesterday at some point on OPB I heard a person say that the goal is not to provide high quality insurance to everyone, rather with the Cadillac Penalty (etc) it is to reduce coverage to minimum and equal. Shortly after that was Howard Dean saying bad legislation is the new good legislation. Yes, this is an improvement…
If you tax my business I just raise my prices, or I find a way to pass it on! The consumer always pays the taxes imposed on any business.
We could have it all yesterday if the legislation that passed is what Congress and ALL branches of Government have to use, no option. However as long as Congress and the Executive are exempt from the laws they crap out the citizens will continue to get screwed.
Oh, in my opinion the health car system existing; is a failure.

Solution, solution, solution.
Just exactly, what is the solution?
Eliminate Carbon based energy and replace it with what?
Reduce the world’s population, who stops reproducing?
Eliminate unnecessary Carbon emissions? Ground all commercial and private aircraft eliminate recreational travel, stop trans oceanic shipments of anything (including food), eliminate movies, sports, eliminate all non-foot powered transportation, eliminate Carbon based food production, etc, etc.
Carbon offsets will not work and giving money to whoever won’t do it as it takes carbon to make money, I doubt rolling civilization back to medieval levels will do it.
The world when asked wants to be America, therefore again, I ask:
What exactly is the solution?
How will it impact my life?
Seriously!! What is the solution?

Ahhh... Well you see I'm a skeptic and “Climategate” is tilting the balance. Add in “Follow the money” and I think that things are right about where they should be.
That said Climate is all ways changing Are "we" the cause? The science needed to prove this is perhaps irrevocably damaged by its generators. There must be real science performed out in the public forum and it must be peer reviewed not crony reviewed.
Copenhagen is not about AGW it is about power.
We should stop polluting, we should not destroy the progress we as a species have made to do it.

on The Battle of Seattle
I was at the time just a guy. Had to get up in the morning and go to work, family to support. I'm really happy that somebody finds something positive out of all the negative actions that occurred.
Did anything change? the simple answer is NOTHING changed, maybe the powers that be changed their rhetoric, but for myself and I'll bet the majority of the working class, nothing changed.
Just as an observation, if you choose to piss off the people with the weapons and you have no plan other then to do that you have pretty much earned the results; right or wrong.

LOL!
One does not "Invest" in the Stock Market.
One "Gambles" in the Stock Market.
Of the minute part of my retirement that I "Gambled" with, I lost the gain and pulled it out of the market before I lost principal.
I have noticed that nobody is stepping up to bail me to cover my losses...

This is a little confusing.
If the private system can pay the market rate while making a profit and paying executives huge amounts of money. An extremely wasteful and stupid thing to spend profit on, but there is still profit.
Then why does so much more efficient government system without the requirement to make a profit or to pay executives huge amounts of money; not pay the same market price?

Actually while I understand your point.
Clearing the over growth of Juniper that has occurred because of the unsustainable practice of suppression of fire, is in the long term what the ecosystem needs.

Have you chosen to purchase carbon offsets? No.
Why? If you want to reduce pollution then do so! This is a feel good concept that...
Does it matter to you if those offsets are close to home — a forest in the Cascades, for example — or in a Bolivian rain forest? No.
Would you turn your own land into a carbon offset forest? Yes, I am managing my forest land correctly.
Have you read the Greenpeace report? Yes. After a long supporting association, I left Greenpeace (et al) decades ago, for good reason.
What questions does it raise? How can people be so gullible...

Is Wal*Mart here to stay?
I do not remember if it was "Marketplace", or "ATC" on the simple fact that the W*M Business model is not long term viable, it will have to evolve. By choice I do not do business with Wal*Mart, as has been said there are choices, and often I can find what I want made locally at the same price, and while it may just be stupid, I deliberately choose pay a bit more for local if that is all it takes to get it.
It is a choice.
