on The Meaning of Marriage

Don't right wing Christians have any sense of equity?

Maggie, whose first hetero partnership failed (while she was studying religion and belonging to Yale's "Party of the Right") goes on to be a Bush expert on marriage? For which, she was given (and didn't disclose) thousands of dollars from the Bush administration.

Meanwhile, my partner and I (24 years together) pay thousands in extra taxes each year, just to suit Maggie's religious views on marriage.

on Classes To Cut

Cut administrators and let's make them an example to the private sector by adjusting their compensation closer to that of our schools' educators and service workers. We continue to reward failure at the upper levels. This may prove just a drop in the bucket financially, but morally, it's long overdue.

We need to fully fund education NEEDS. For that reason, we must make M66/67 a first step toward tax fairness. It's time to kill the kicker and create a stable rainy day fund, 'cause it sure does rain in Oregon!

on Sam Scandal

Are people saying Sam should resign just because he lied, or because he lied about sex? Because if truthfulness is your litmus test for any public official, then i'd like to hear more criticism regarding Treasury Secretary nominee Timothy Geithner who lied about his taxes.

on Primary Conversations: U.S. Senate

When Jeff Merkley had a chance to stand up against the war (at the start), he wanted to have a "debate or a conversation another day." Five years later, what does he have to say for himself? He claims that he was against the war from the start.

It turns out the "anti-war column" the Speaker supposedly published was bogus. (h/t to Harry Esteve at the Big O)

I have already voted for Novick, but I welcome Candy Neville to the debate (and support her as well). She is the strongest Democrat in this race on impeachment. And for those of you content with the politics of wait, every month we leave Bush in office and our troops in the occupation, we lose 12 BILLION dollars and 30-60 Americans.

on It's a Bird! It's a Plane! It's a... Secretary of State?

There's an expression in German that roughly translates: "Why do things the simple way, when the complicated way works as well?" (Yes, the Germans do have humor, usually in the form of sarcasm.)

State parties can determine participation in their own primaries or caucuses. And then let the votes fall where they may. They the Leaders don't seem to trust We the People...

Why do we have to rely on a process of "super" delegates hedging their bets? Gronke pointed out the process of going simply by the popular vote and the problematic that in some states, that includes Independents and even Republicans in open primaries. I myself was a Pacific Green who re-re-registered Dem in order to have a voice in nominating someone for our general election. There's an odd disconnect between states who allow non Democrats to participate in the selection of delegates to the Democratic convention, but in the end really don't want to count their votes. I thought that's how the Republicans worked?

Good point. Leaving the decision to the "party leadership" is especially ominous this time around. I see a huge disconnect between our "leaders" and the people who voted them into power in 2006.

The Democrats didn't end the occupation in Iraq, they continued to fund it. Oregon's own Rep. Hooley said with regard to impeachment that "it's up to the leadership." Hats off off to Rep. DeFazio who this week signed on to Wexler's initiative to proceed with impeachment hearings against the Vice President. It is very disheartening that my own Representative (Blumenauer) won't support these efforts to hold the Bush/Cheney administration accountable.

The Democratic superdelegates have the opportunity to exercise Democracy. If anyone other than the most popular candidate becomes the nominee, as determined by the voters in the primaries, then the entire system will be shown to have been a farce.
