I think that the "gay issue" is a red herring.

The main issue here I beleive, is judgement.  Sam made a TERRIBLE judgement as a 42 year old man to engage in a sexual relationship with an 18year old.  If the this were a straight relationship, the judgement would be equally bad.  A 42 year old man and an 18 year old girl or a 42 year old woman and an 18 year old boy would be just as bad judgement and should raise the exact same issues.

The question really should be: Will he make future bad judgements in his professional life as he has in his past personal life?
