I am happy that the women you film are in control, but how do we, as the viewers, know that? How does your representation demonstrate female choice or empowerment any more than the next porn? Is there relevance to how a video is made if the end product for viewers is the same?

Tristan speaks eloquently about normalizing conversations about sexuality and creating a space for open-mindedness and acceptance of variance within sexual expression. Working within the field of women’s reproductive health and being admittedly liberal minded, I’ve come to realize that “normal” isn’t a word we can use to define the sexual experiences of a population. That said, I struggle to find a balance between acceptance of all sexual fantasy and not wanting to promote oppression or degradation of women. I have difficulty teasing out what sexual desires stem from years of societal ideology promoting the oppression and domination of women and what sexual impulses represent human desire and curiosity. I have concerns about much of what widespread pornography symbolizes and am curious how Tristan approaches pornography from a feminist perspective and from a place, presumably, of being pro-woman, and how does societal context affect her approach to creating pornography?
